Christmas in the 'Burg

Christmas Eve 2009
Thanks Nana! I'm going to open the
rest while sitting in my new ride!
Grandy helping to open the chalk board
scribble center. WHOOHOO!
Christmas was very special and lots of fun this year. The special part was spending time with all of the Gard family and our traditional Christmas Eve dinner at Longhorn after church. John and Grandy spent hours that night putting together Cayden's new crazy coup (as the bumper reads) and boy was it a hit! Once he saw the car by the tree on Christmas morning he wouldn't get out of it for a long time and even put his feet up and enjoyed a cup of milk in it. He was a happy camper and it was nice to see Tyler and the rest of the crew open their gifts while C played in his car.

Nana and Grandy thought of everything and Cayden had a blast playing with his new toys and tearing wrapping paper. He also started to say more words like, "Hi Kitty" to Frisky Marie and other random things we've never heard from him before. He read lots of Christmas books and got three very special books that we'll be reading for years to come. Thanks everyone!

Christmas evening was spent at Grandma-ma and Granddaddy's and it was a blast. We ate and ate and once C went to bed upstairs we played games - scategories, spoons, uno attack with cousins (young and old :), aunts and uncles. It was a wonderful celebration!

16 Inches and Counting!

We got major snow and it is WONDERFUL!
C and El dressed and waiting to go play...
El has already gone inside and it's really coming
down but I'm going to eat as much snow as I can...
It's time to make angels...

We delayed our trip but are still hoping to head out of town soon to visit both families and friends. We relaxed all day by the fire, watched movies, ate chocolate chip cookies and played in the snow. It was perfect! Oh, and John agrees with me that the Incredibles is an awesome movie (thanks for taking me when it was in theaters Tyler!).

Smart & Spoiled

Cayden's eating habits are changing. He knows what he likes now and will not eat anything he doesn't! Thankfully, he still loves veggies and flavorful meats.

So, last week I couldn't figure out why C wouldn't eat kielbasa all of the sudden. That and pesto tortellini are his favorite lunches. Three days later, John told me "Hey, did you like the turkey kielbasa I picked up?". Mystery solved. While I never noticed the difference, apparently C did and only likes the original fatty stuff...but thanks for trying to be healthier daddy.

Over the summer, C ate tons of fruit but lately, it's been less and less until I realized he likes fruit but it has to be fresh and ripe! If the raspberries or banana isn't perfect, it goes to Elwood (who loves this spoiled new habit). I gave him once-frozen strawberries and he spit them out. There is a trick though! Cute one-year olds. His friend Ruthie was feeding him green beans at lunch today and decided he also needed some of the strawberries and sure enough, he ate them and asked for more as she kept feeding him and giggling. He returned the favor and fed her crackers while the mom's sat there and watched as they licked strawberry juice off each other's hands. GROSS! Elwood was sad that he didn't have any leftovers to scarf down but I'm pretty sure he got enough of a treat by cleaning the hardwoods.

Our little man has such a big personality now! He loves to cuddle (and sometimes body slam) Elwood, climb, stack legos, do forward rolls, dance in the kitchen, sing in the car and bring mommy ornaments from the tree while she cooks. Our Christmas tree is now top heavy b/c the bottom is emtpy. As J says - wouldn't have it any other way!

Our first snow day!

So our first day of snow has come and gone. It was mostly snowy-mush but the snow that managed to stick to the trees was pretty. We celebrated by not doing anything of real substance, a little trip to Costco, some running around, a movie. Now that is how you spend a Saturday.

Thanksgiving in New England

C absolutely adores Emily and Amanda...
All smiles after our feast!
Let's share...your blanket is softer!

Cayden had a wonderful thanksgiving at G'ma Chin's! We drove so we could see friends in NY and cousins in CT along the way and it turned out to be a good decision. The lil man slept the majority of the trip, Elwood by his side, and got into a moon bounce party for free when two nice girls took pity on his long journey and let him play in between two birthday parties :) and enjoyed lots of fun toys at a cracker barrel pit stop too! The air was crisp in Maine and there were a few moments of rain but unfortunately, no snow this trip. We went to playgrounds, shopped a little and did some errands with G'ma but the majority of the time was spent relaxing with the family and eating ALL of our favorites.

We hit Luigi's on the way into town the first night, chinese buffet with G'ma the next day, Gilberts Chowder House in Portland (on Tuesday while we surprised G'ma and picked up Uncle Denny who flew in from Cali the night before!!!), chinese takeout from Chopsticks, steamers and lobster from our friends at Gendrons and of course - an amazing Turkey Dinner with all of the trimmings for Thanksgiving - thanks Skye & Tom!

Things You Would Have Never Thought About....

So, it's been a while since I have made a post! But, I have been saving some funny, odd, spice of life stories up! Here goes!

Our house has a black hole: It's name is Cayden
So over the past few weeks, we have been noticing things missing, some have been found, others, not so much. The T.V. remote, a Nalgene Bottle, shoes and other stuff I'm sure we haven't noticed missing yet will turn up nowhere to be found. Our little guy, just picks things up as he rumbles through the house unbeknownst to us and poof, gone! We found the remote in a toy box, the Nalgene bottle was under the bed, and we still can't find our camera charger and after two weeks of searching had to buy a new one. This morning, Tracie caught our little monster carrying the dog bowl into our bedroom. I guess someone wanted to feed Elwood breakfast in bed!

On today's lunch menu, fruit, chicken noodle soup and kibble
We try to feed Cayden healthy food, a few treats here and there and from the strain on my back picking him up, the kid doesn't go hungry. So why does he want to eat Dog Food? Most days, if you don't keep a close eye on him, after eating and sharing some food with Elwood, he will waddle over to the dog bowl and try to eat dog food. Some times we catch him, sometimes we don't. We figure, a few pieces a day can't hurt, right?

The kid is a dancing machine. Unfortunately, he inherited my slick moves.
Sitting in the car, in his high-chair, standing in the kitchen, it doesn't matter, our little guy hears a song and he starts bopping his head. As he has gotten steadier on his feet, his moves have gotten more complex. Now, he is bopping, bending at the waist and sticking out his butt (my signature move, by-the-way) and twirling. We even caught him on video (which I need to edit and put on the blog) putting his hands on his knees and shaking his little booty. All I can say is, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

Finally someone else who can take Elwood for a walk.
Little Buddha, isn't so little anymore. He is walking on his own, and would prefer to walk from the car to the house by himself and pretty much anywhere else for that matter. One of his newest favorite things is walking Elwood. He will take the leash and with a little supervision and gentle threats for Elwood to behave, take him for a walk. I think Tracie was the first to witness this little episode. She was getting ready to take the boys for a walk and had put Elwood's leash on him and had to get something before she could leave. She comes back to see Cayden leading Elwood through the house and Elwood just kind of hanging out. Now, when she gets ready for her afternoon trip to the park, the boys are both standing at the door prancing together, waiting for a walk. He even passed on playing at the playground to walk Elwood around the playground equipment. I think the two of them are becoming fast friends, and Elwood is finally realizing that his little personal cheerio dispenser, isn't half bad.

It's Who's Clues? Blue's Clues
So every morning from 7:00 – 8:00 on Nick Jr., its Blues Clues. Our favorite is Steve (and by we, I mean me. Im a 100% Steve fan. This new guy Joe, is no Steve, Cayden could care less, but I digress). So on the rare mornings I'm still at home at this hour, I will turn on the TV for Cayden, while I get dressed and he will drink milk and watch for 10 seconds before getting back to hiding our stuff. Most parents, could care less about this show. But, at this hour, home-shopping would keep my limited attention, so a grown man dancing around with a blue dog is more than enough to keep my attention away from getting ready. So my loving wife, keeps me on track and slowly but surely I get ready to go to work. One morning, her gentle prodding was met with...Me, belting out the Blue's Clue's Mail-time Song Side-note. Mail time, is when Steve and Blue get a letter, the song goes a little something like this...Here's the mail, it never fails. It makes me want to wag my tail. When it comes I want to wail - Mail! Needless to say, my cartoon time has been cut way back.
